Urinalysis in the Navy

Navy is considered to be very strict and disciplined field. Though it is very harsh in the rules drug testing is randomly performed to keep the people alert. Monthly inspection, commander inspection, uninformed inspection will be imposed to check the status of the people in navy. They are monitored by the substance abuse control officer (SACO).

In navy, 10% of people are randomly checked for drug every month. Each unit will cover 10% of people randomly. The drugs tested in the navy are cocaine, THC, PCP, codeine, morphine, heroin, LSD and methamphetamine. If the test results are positive they are punished as per the rules of SACO.

Actually people who are in navy are tested for steroids simultaneously tested for drugs. Pre employment drug test also carried during hiring process. Drug tests are taken when a person is suspected for the drug addiction. Drug testing in navy allows the Commanders to give instruction to their team members to submit their urine samples for test. The urine samples are collected under very strict condition such that adulteration could not be carried out. The urine samples are then stored in a appropriate container and sent to the defense drug testing labs. Urinalysis is carried out with screening for drugs by immuno assay technique and then followed by the quantitative analyzes for drugs by GC/MS instruments.

The results obtained are interpreted by the MRO. If the test results are positive for drugs they are punished harshly under zero tolerance. They may be dismissed from navy or suspended from their work for about two weeks.

Navy drug screening programs involves navy drug test for various types of drugs, marine corp drug testing and probation urine test. These testing programs are more common among the navy army just to create awareness among the navy people.
