The Method Of Collecting Urine Sample Is Non Invasive

One of the most commonly used samples for drug testing is the urine. The reason why urine is preferred over other samples is that it is the main excretory pathway for all the drugs. Moreover the method of collecting urine is also non invasive and takes only few minutes. The drugs can also be detected in urine long after the drug has left the blood. In spite of these positive aspects, urine testing has its negative aspects too. First of all, you need to provide the candidate with a restroom with adequate privacy or else the entire process of urine collection would become embarrassing.

On the other hand, the manipulation or contamination of the samples is the main problem associated with the provision of private spaces. There are lots of possibilities that the person who is being tested goes to the restroom, collects his urine and adds the tap water to it diluting the whole sample.

You can combat this issue by a very simple procedure called pH testing of urine using a pH scale. pH means the acidity or alkalinity of any solution. Neutral pH is 7 whereas less than 7 denote acidic and more than 7 goes in favor of alkaline. The normal pH of urine is around the range of 6.5-8.

So whenever you get a urine sample, test its pH to see if it correlates with the normal values. In case of dilution, the urine sample would be alkaline. This is the significance of urine pH in drug testing.

12 drug test panel, 10 drug test panel, 5 panel drug screen, alcohol testing are all done in the urine sample based on the requirements of the test process. The sample collection should be absolutely sterile, otherwise this can lead to inaccuracies in the readings. Therefore, it is important for ensuring sterility during the test process.
