Pros and cons of drug testing

Saturday, December 6th, 2008

Here is a tiny essay on drug abuse: It all started as a temptation to know what it is, I tried the left over drugs of my brother, I began to hunt for leftovers of drugs often, I stole his drugs and today I am an addict, unwilling to admit I need help.” A lot of drug test fact identify that everyone that is in to abuse needs help but they fail to admit.

For anyone that is not an employer, there are more than normal disadvantages of drug testing. When we think of Pros and cons of drug testing, cons seem to outweigh the pros. Although employers see it as a useful tool, the major of workers feel that there are only disadvantages of drug testing and the pros are pretty less.

The most complained disadvantage is intrusion of privacy. Drug permits employers to analyze the potential of current employees based on their activities that they participate in and outside of the workplace.

In addition, the other pro most employers see is the cost efficiency of drug testing when they contract with a drug testing company. It is relatively inexpensive and it greatly helps the employer to identify the one with his brain in the right place and the one that can likely be hallucinated when he seems perfectly okay.

Although the process of mandating random drug tests for employees has been protested against in various courts of law, the entire procedure has turned out to be in favor of the employer. If they have mentioned it as a part of the employment process, then the employees should abide with submitting to drug tests.

Pros and cons of random drug testing still feel like an invasion of privacy. They feel bad to get tested positive after a weekend, when they would have just had a couple of sips of alcohol or some other illegal drug. Sometimes, they might have taken an OTC medication and they would not remember the name of it and when the MRO questions what, they might not be able to answer; however, drug positive screen, on further confirmation will be able to differentiate between whether it was a probably prescription drug abuse or use.

For employers that are electing to bring in drug testing policy, it is very important to consider the consequences that could surface as a result of very strict drug testing policy. By all means if the corporation is paying high and has real good benefits people might not hesitate to take up the test or at least they will try to be sober when tests are being done.
