Dot Drug Testing – Why It Is Very Important – Random Drug Testing

The Dot Drug Testing program is an important statement imposed by the secretary of transportation. The drug testing policy requires that all the employees in the transportation industry to be tested, for drug and alcohol by means of different drug and alcohol testing procedures.

The provision permits random drug testing with due regulations in place. The DOT has rules that state exactly about who must be conducting the alcohol and drug tests. DOT also provides specific regulations about the type of tests and procedures for the testing process.

Government Services agents and employees of the safely sensitive transportation industry come under DOT regulations. They are required to show up for the testing process as and when warranted.

DOT regulations are “Encompassed in 49 Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) Part 40, the Office of Drug & Alcohol Policy & Compliance (ODAPC) publishes, implements, and provides authoritative interpretations of these rules.”

There are set regulations in place that recommend specific steps to collecting the samples ensuring integrity of the samples and there are also rules in place to accord to the respective securities that should be in place for the drug testing process.

Everyone in the testing process, right from the stage of the collector collecting the sample, through the Medical Review Officer are to work in strict compliance to the DOT regulations.

The testing kits are more or less same and they are available in different combinations of panels like those applicable for student drug testing also for drug testing athletes however, the applicable rules and the methods of collection of sample, confidentiality of results and other proceedings are practiced in accordance to stringent rules.

Random drug testing in DOT, however, performed by the random testing rates that differ each year and the board fixes it periodically, maintaining absolute confidentiality about the when and who.
